Panda & Sons opened in November 2013 by Panda and his family. The foundation the bar was built on was to create a place where all ages and all people would feel welcome whether it would be for one of our deliciously creative cocktails, wide range of craft beers or our extensive wine list.
We are a hidden bar fusing the classic Prohibition style Speakeasy and a nod to the Vintage style Barbershop. All we can say is that if you find a Barbershop with some foreign currency you have made it to the Libation Destination!

Like some of the other great cocktail bars in Edinburgh it would be very easy to miss Panda & Sons. Deliberately set up as a modern day speakeasy - a gin joint that pretends to be something else to fool the Killjoys and Miseries of the prohibition era - the façade is reminiscent of some dodgy Chicago barbershop straight out of the Untouchables. Down some carpeted stairs (very Morningside) and you're confronted with a door disguised as a bookcase, with askew books acting as handles. Pull on the books and step on through.
It's always the case. When you're least expecting to stumble upon a hidden gem - you don't just stumble but trip with gracelessness. The hidden gem I am referring to in this case is Panda & Sons. Although this 'trip' almost resulted unrewarded as this place is so well hidden that even a local on the look-out almost missed it.
Panda & Sons is located on the corner of Queen Street, neatly tucked between an estate agent and newsagent with the frontage disguised as an old fashioned Barber shop so you'd be forgiven if you walked past without even giving it a second glance. You'll need to sharpen your wits to work out how to actually access the bar (I'm not going to spoil it for you as your drink will feel more deserved if you do this yourself!) however this is the first (of many) clever and charming characteristics the bar presents.
Panda & Sons is the brainchild of the international award-winning bartender Iain McPherson and he's totes about simplicity. Nestled beneath Queen Street, the only visible aspect of the bar is the street level barbershop entrance. Descend to the basement and through a slick bookcase door like you’re Bond on a break-in and you've made it.
The former general manager of award-winning cocktail bar and venue The Voodoo Rooms, Iain opened his own bar, Panda & Sons, in the capital late last year. Based on a speakeasy theme with a twist, Panda & Sons is not just a new face on Edinburgh's burgeoning bar scene; it's also the beginning of a new chapter for Iain, who has never owned his own business before.
Having scouted a number of sites around Edinburgh, Iain settled on the Queen Street premises - an Iona Pub Partnership lease - and set about creating a new basement bar.
